The rise in popularity of the short term rental
As we dive into September, we are seeing the busy months of July and August fade into a distant memory. However, the heat is refusing to fade, and September is proving to be a continuation of the blistering hot temperatures Estepona has experienced this year. In addition, the usual thinning of the crowds in mid September does not seem to be happening either. This is following the trend of the past couple of years, where the summer season has been getting longer and longer.
The best restaurants in town still need to be reserved, even midweek, and the paseo is still teaming with people enjoying the barmy evenings. Whilst the locals might be looking forward to normality, it is proving to have been a fantastic year for Estepona´s tourism. Early figures are showing a massive rise in visitors, as people shun the other tourist resorts where they has been problems recently.
The busier season has also had another effect. Property owners are now favouring short term rentals over long term rentals, leading to a lack of long term rentals in Estepona. The old idea of the summer season lasting for two months in July and August, is now a thing of the past. The more popular short term rentals will now be booked out a year in advance, and can get good rental rates, all year round. This new trend is making Estepona a very popular spot for buying a rental property. Prices are slowly going up, but there are still some bargains to be had.
